“When spring comes to Paris the humblest mortal alive must feel that he dwells in paradise.” – Henry Miller

What a difference one year makes as headlines from Paris in recent weeks showed a much different scene than these images with the Seine River threatening to flood Paris as it had other parts of France. Thankfully reports are hopeful that the worst is now over, but our thoughts are with those in flooded areas of France and Germany as they have much recovery work ahead.

These are some of my favorite photographs from our trip to Paris last spring.  It’s been daunting to find the time to review and edit the images.  We normally travel in November, so it was a treat to explore Paris with longer days and lots of beautiful light – not to mention leaves on the trees and blooms!  We also visited Claude Monet’s garden at Giverny and Keukenhof in Amsterdam, so I’ll be posting images from these adventures soon.

Jenny - Beautiful photography!

Melanie - Thanks Jenny!

Adventures in Amsterdam

Thanks to all who came out for SWAN Day this weekend!  Speaking of swans…these are some favorite images from last year’s Amsterdam adventure.

Jess - You are so talented! May I ask what kind of camera and lens you used to capture these amazing photographs? Particularly the black and white tram photograph and the girl on the bike. Seriously love love love your work! <3

Melanie - Thanks Jess!! I use a Canon 5D mark ii and on this trip, I tended to shoot with the 100mm f/2.8L (macro) and 24-105mm f/4L. I used a 50mm at night since it’s better in low light.

Springtime in Golden Gate Park

In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” ~ John Muir

While it’s not officially Spring here in the US, there are many signs that it’s not far off.

Below are recent images taken in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park.

Karen - Beautiful!!

Love the redbuds, dogwoods and the squirrel!!

Yours truly - Pink flowers against paintlike background a winner…

Kelly - so pretty. the slightest signs of spring in Paris were covered up by yesterdays snow. 🙁

Paris in Black and White

A photograph is usually looked at – seldom looked into.” ~ Ansel Adams

Some Paris scenes in black and white for a change…

Sandra - Who is that fella you followed around Paris? Lol…. Great eye for the special sights all around…. Well captured….

Sea and Sky

”I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by.”   ~ John Masefield

Of late, I’ve been drawn to the coast – the beauty of massive ocean expanses and the powerful waves, the soothing pulse of the surf as it meets the shore.  Here are some images taken along the Santa Cruz coastline in California.

Kelly - beautiful, as usual.

Karen - Makes me wish I was there . . . can hear the waves crashing in your photos.
Nicely done.

Melanie - Thanks! 🙂
